The award winning civil rights documentary “Eyes on the Prize” has had just one problem in recent years. People have a very hard time obtaining the Oscar award winning film. For the last ten years this film has not been available to the public due to an expired copyright license. While a group called the Blackside Inc. has been tiring to get the film cleared for distribution, but have been having problems clearing some of the hurdles. Enter Downhillbattle.org.
Downhillbattle decided to fight this gross injustice in a way that would have made Doctor King proud, with nonviolent civil disobedience. The group decided to make available a digital copy of the series they a website they ran called Eyes on the Screen. Even more shockingly they offered the download for free threw the popular Bit Torrent file sharing protocol. The move was an instant success as thousands of copies of the film where downloaded by enthusiastic web surfers.
