After slow but steady growth, the then predominantly Ares network reached 100,000 users this time last year. It was a major event for the small network, which had previously stumbled alongside Piolet in the small network market.
With help from the Warez P2P client, the network had grown to 300,000 less than three months later. The growth continued at a seemingly expediential rate, reaching 500,000 by mid-July and 1,000,000 in September.
“We are excited by the extreme growth of Warez P2P. It took only 4 months to go from 1 million to 2 million online,” said Kaleb Kain, marketing director of Warez.com
It is important to remember the latest figure is based on watching the network at peak hours, rather than most user count claims, which are made once a landmark is surpassed for the majority of the daily and weekly cycle. Ares do not consider the event worthy of celebration.
Nevertheless, it is a sign that the network will soon be in the FastTrack and eDonkey premier league.
As usage of the Warez P2P client grows, they will be facing more scrutiny. Recent discussions and reports following the launch of eXeem have shown the community’s contempt for ad-supported software.
Spyware and adware conscious file sharers will be safest using KCeasy to connect the network. FileCroc is also clean, but lacks any development. Ares has opt-out crapware components, and Warez P2P has in-built adware and opt-out crapware.
