MINNEAPOLIS — Twins fans are among the first to preview a unique new form of portable video technology that lets users bring digital recordings of their favorite programming virtually anywhere.
The new product, the Windows Mobile-based Portable Media Center, is on display at the Metrodome through Friday, and Twins fans can watch a demonstration of the product working in conjunction with MLB.com’s exclusive Digital Download Service, which allows fans to purchase and download files of game telecasts on-demand for $3.95 per game.
The device works like an iPod or other portable music systems, except instead of just storing MP3 files, users can store video files, and if they subscribe to MLB.com’s download service, they can store recent Twins games as well as classic games of years past.
For example, before Friday’s game against Texas, fans in the Metrodome concourse watched video of Justin Morneau’s two-homer game in Seattle last month. Then, the screen flashed footage of Carlton Fisk’s game-winning home run off the foul pole at Fenway Park in the 11th inning of Game 6 of the 1975 World Series.
