“medium convergence” – that was one that magic word at times of the InterNet boom end of the 90’s. PC and slipper cinema should merge; the multimedia world in the living room should make Internetprovider and offerers of Entertainment contents equally rich. Some years and a collapse of the stock market it looks later like the fact that television comes actually ever more frequently from the net – however without payment.

The cinema Blockbuster is not the racers in the file exchange stock exchanges: TV serials belong to the most popular Downloads. “the offer of TV series increased heute.de within the P2P-Netze in the last months”, confirms Jorge Antonio Gonzales of the InterNet portal Zeropaid opposite. He assumes: “many users change to file sharing services as alternatives to TiVo or other photograph systems.”

The industry magazine video Business wants to know that “Sex and the town center”, “The Simpsons” and “The Sopranos” to the series to belong, which are most frequently downloaded. Depending upon quality the episodes between 80 and 500 megabyte are large. In the DSL age also for private users no more challenge is.

For European fans of US TV serials the offer is even still more enticing: Instead of waiting month or for many years, until the favourite series starts finally also at home, they fish themselves short hand the current in each case consequences from the data network – direct after the Erstausstrahlung in the USA. This attractiveness can be measured: A study on behalf of the OECD stated, of the 30 member countries video files with 35 per cent would have the largest portion of the traffic volume in the file sharing nets in Germany.
