So remember that settlement last year that forced the RIAA to pay $143 million in fines? Here’s an article on what the state of Washington received as their portion of the settlement. Here are some choice excerpts:
- 387 Big Pun Albums
- 356 copies of Barry White’s “Staying Power”
- 310 copies of Will Smith, “Willenium”
- 204 copies of Everclear, “Good Time for a Bad Attitude”
- 104 copies of Wilson Pickett, “In the Midnight Hour”
- Nine copies of Yanni, “In the Mirror”
- One copy of “Chicken Soup for Little Souls”
Anyways the article goes on to say how awful some of the CD selections are, how some are marked ‘for promotional use only’, some are notched, etc.
The thing that pisses me off is that the RIAA was allowed to pay their “fine” with cds. I mean, if you let them pay with CDs of course you are going to get awful music. This is costing the RIAA $.01 on the dollar of their so called “fine”. Nice punishment guys, you are getting rid of the leftover CDs they couldn’t sell.
