Warez.com Releases Results of Survey

After 150,000 Submissions

(Kountze, Texas) – After four months of gathering survey data, Warez.com is now releasing the results of the “The Great File Trading Survey”. The 20 question survey was launched on February 1st during the NFL SuperBowl to gather file sharing habits from around the world. The goal was to eliminate or verify any myths or propaganda surrounding the current peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing revolution.

Over 150,000 people have taken the survey so far, making it the most prolific study of file sharing habits ever accomplished. No other study on file sharing of this magnitude exists today.

Interesting highlights of survey analysis:

  • 51% say that little to none of the new music that they discover is available at their local stores to buy.
  • 47% say that they will not purchase music online because they either don’t have access to a credit or debit card, or prefer not to give their credit information online.
  • 45% would start using pay-per-download services like iTunes and Napster if songs were 25 cents. An additional 16.5% would pay if songs were 5 cents or less.
  • 73% say that they have had to repurchase some to a lot of their CD collection because of loss or damage. Also, 76% say that they would rather download via P2P those lost or damaged songs instead of buying them again.
  • 64% say that they download songs via P2P that they already own as a convenience.
  • 84% say they would be tempted to purchase many more CDs if they were all priced between $3 and $10.
  • Almost 70% say that they attend concerts each year to help support their favorite artists. 26% of those attend 3 to 11 concerts per year. 8% attend 12 or more times per year.
  • 73% say that they were making copies of their music and sharing with friends before even discovering P2P. Either from making tapes off radio, tapes, and CDs, or using a CD copier.
