The google of sig2dat (Fasttrack quicklinks) whatabig.com is completely reconstructed and working. The new engine searches on over 15000 verified links from many sites, but the numbers are still growing. Whatabig uses a special technology to get and store many advanced details from the files behind the links, which makes the engine more effective.
Search engine whatabig becomed completely rewritten. Leading programmer Benedek Toth told us the code of the system (without the 200 printed page documentation) contains more than 12000 lines, but the searching is very easy. “It’s like google, you don’t care whatabig technology is behind the system, you only thinking about finding what you like to, as fast and as easy as it’s possible.”
The search database now contains more than 15000 sig2dat links, but without many important site. There is problems with some site, but programmers said that they will solve these problems. Due to the calculations, the web contains approx. 50000 sig2dat quicklinks, but whatabig will not search among all. “Whatabig will only search in sites where links are avaible without any kind of membership, where all service is free, where no special programs, or any special thing needed”.
The engine is very efficient and working, but whatabig developers still have many ideas in their pocket. “Whatabig is not a simple search engine. It also an efficient database system, which enables us to make many services was impossible before. We have many-many ideas. We like to make a new crawler which search in different links, not just sig2dats, but ed2k and any kind of magnet-link. We like to make plug-ins for filesharing clients to make them more effective. (Many new Fasttrack client contains integrated whatabig search) The whole point in whatabig is that nobody before tried to make p2p and classical we to as close, as we did.”
The special database system called “Prometheus” have many other “behindthescenes” options. It’s also a special program: a robot which crawls in the fasttrack (and some other) network itself. It can get “extended” informations from files, for example: the quality of a sound file, or the resolution of a video. This details are making download much easyer.
In january, we published a release, where we said: “In the spring of 2004 whatabig will make a new age of filesharing”, but now we prefer: “In the spring of 2004 whatabig started to make a new age of filesharing”, becouse now we see the doors. We just have to enter them.
