While single titles usually cost 99 Cents and albums 9,99 Dollars, the Music Industry now aims to get between 1.25 and 2.49 Dollars per title. Currently the complete album “Fly or Die” from ”N.E.R.D.” costs $ 13.99 when downloading via Napster and $ 16.99 on the iTunes Musicstore. Meanwhile the complete album is available at Amazon for $ 13.49. So you pay up to 20% more when legally downloading this album.
According to Wall Street Journal, the industry tries to determine further ways to let the user pay more for single titles. they try to bundle current hit singles with second or third class titles or demand an increased price if the song is available online before the release date of the album.
Like “Fly or Die” the prices for “Musicforthemorningafter” from Pete Yorn and from further artists, ranging from Kylie Minogue to Blur were raised in a way that the digital versions are more expensive than the average price in old fashioned music stores.
