Im sure this subject has been covered… and if it hasnt, it needs to be. I frequently use file sharing programs, morpheus, edonkey2000, xolox while it lasted etc..
One common farce ive seen on these programs are bogus filenames. Morpheus has a filter to block these bogus files, but it doesnt work properly. Especially when it comes to .avi files. .avi files can’t be previewed until the entire file is finished downloading. Now usually a bogus filename is just that. You think your downloading lord of the rings but your actually getting the mummy returns. But to my surprise, there is another false filename. It the dreaded BLANK file. Nothing. Absolutely Nothing. No Audio, No Video. Just over 200Meg. Waste of Bandwidth. Get on Morpheus and try searching for “LOTR” You’ll see a majority of them are just over 200Meg. and they are BLANK. But that isnt even the best part. The Best part is that 80% of the users of these file sharing programs, if not higher, have no idea how to unshare a file, much less move the file, much less delete the file. So this Blank File just keeps multiplying and multiplying. It Su$ks-Ass Man! I always thought people renamed a file just to get attention. So they can say… Hey Look at me! I have a file that you dont have! Now a million people will download from me! Assholes. Have I downloaded a Blank File in the past?. YES. I have a suggestion: Create a program that can detect these BLANK files and make it so noone can see them, so none can download them, so noone can share them.
