A new Morpheus 4.0 BETA was released (previous versions were Alpha). It adds ED2K and FT to the Alphas’ Gnutella, G2 and NeoNet.
So Morpheus now has FastTrack support again, what does this mean? Do we have a nice KLite alternative now? Well, it seems this is not the “official” support we knew from old Morpheus 1.3.3, and today’s Kazaa Grokster and iMesh.
A quick look at the about box and the FAQ shows that this version of Morpheus is based on, in addition to Gnucleus, MLDonkey. The ED2K and FT support are based on MLDonkey, and as such are “unofficial” and also can’t be “swarmed” with other networks. When you search for a file you get 3 types, one with a “Morpheus” icon (probably means the file was found through Gnutella, G2 and NeoNet), another with a Kazaa-like icon, and another with the eDonkey icon. Those 3 types can’t seem to swarm with each other, so it’s doubtful how efficient is the idea of having multiple networks.
Another problem is that, as far as I know, MLDonkey doesn’t support uploads on FT (and I think ED2K too). It’s a leecher. Also if Sharman indeed changed something in Kazaa 2.5+ that doesn’t allow older clients to connect, I think the MLDonkey implementation counts as pre-2.5. But I’m not sure about that.
Anyways, you decide, here’s the link:
