Destiny’s Child taken to court over hit song.
There’s an old saying in showbiz, ‘Where there’s a hit, there’s a writ’, and the latest pop sensations to find this out the hard way are Destiny’s Child. Beyonce and co have been slapped with a lawsuit worth 200 million dollars from Miami songwriter/producer Terrence ‘T-Robb’ Robinson. The suit claims that their song ‘Survivor’ was stolen from his song ‘Glorious’, which T-Robb sent to Beyonce’s father (and Destiny’s manager) Mathew Knowles in 2000.
Naturally, Mathew has denied the claims, saying the song was produced by Anthony Dent for Mind Muzic, with lyrics from the band themselves. He also pointed out that this isn’t the first time someone has popped up claiming that they were the true authors of the song.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: “Three people have said they have either written or did the music or the lyrics were against them. So somebody has got to be lying.”
Beyonce’s lawyer Thomas Sulkerson told the press Destiny’s Child have launched counter-proceedings against T-Robb, claiming libel, fraud and breach of contract.
