When most people think of Freenet, they think of an ultra-anonymous, but ultra-slow P2P network that has a pretty quirky user interface. That could change very soon. The Freenet developers have been working on what they call “Next Generation Routing” which holds the promise of making Freenet smarter and faster than anything we have seen before – while retaining its robust anonymity. While still a work in progress, it is now possible to try out the early versions of the new Freenet, and already people are reporting 300% speed increases. You can find an explanation of how you can try it out here, and Freenet’s developers are always keen to hear user-feedback.
