Kazaa Lite Folder Isolation Tutorial

The Problem:

KazaaLite doesn’t formerly allow it’s users to specify and seperate one folder
for uploads and one folder for downloads. Kazaa does however give the user all
of the tools necessary to make this happen.

The Reason I Care:

Many users may feel fine with uploading everything they download. On the contrary,
I like the ability to specify and control every file I wish to upload, this
excludes some of the files I may download. Below I will try to teach anyone
interested the way that I treated this problem on my computer.

The Solution, As I see it:

Summary: Using Kazaa Lite’s file organizer to filter downloads, you can keep
the files you want to upload in “my shared folder” while moving all
of your downloaded files to a non-shared folder. The file organizer already
allows you to move files to a different folder however, that different folder
must live in “my shared folder” and the files are thus still uploadable.
Moving files to a folder in “my shared folder” is a step in the right
direction as it will seperate our downloaded files from the files we wish to
upload however, we will need to use a batch script to finish the job. Within
this tutorial, the files we wish to upload are in “c:appskazaa litemy
shared folder” and our shared downloads folder is in “c:appskazaa
litemy shared foldersafe”. The file organizer allows users to “run
this command” on a filter, this is how we can move downloads out of a shared
folder and into a non-shared folder. We will have to run a batch script (1 line)
from our non-shared folder, “c:appskazaadownloadsmove.bat” to move
all of the files from the new shared folder,”c:appskazaa litemy shared
foldersafe” into “c:appskazaadownloads”.

Step 1. Create a folder in your “my shared folder” called
“safe” (or whatever you like).

Step 2. Create a folder outside of your “my shared folder”
called “kazaadownloads” (or whatever you like).

Step 3. Add a new text document in your “kazaadownloads” folder
and name it “move.bat” (or you can download this file here).

Step 4. Right Click “move.bat” and click “edit”.

Step 5. Type in “move” followed by a space, followed by the
path to your “safe” directory, followed by a backslash, followed by
a star, followed by a space, followed by the path to your non-shared folder.
ie(move “c:appskazaa litemy shared foldersafe*” c:appskazaadownoads).
Save this file, then start up Kazaa Lite K++ 2.40.

Step 6. Click Options, then scroll down to “KL Extentions Options…”.

Step 7. Click on file organizer.

Step 8. Click “Add” to add your upload filter.

Step 9. You are now adding a filter for the file you wish to upload.
I am sharing the cdrwin 14 day trial. Under “Title” give this filter
a name (ie “cdrwin” or “cdrwin upload”). Under “Filter”
type in the exact filename (ie “cdr50-e.exe”). Change the radio button
under “Action” to “Move”. Under “Destination”
type in the location of your “My Shared Folder”. This filter will
find the file you want to upload (which should reside in your “my shared
folder”) and move it to from “my shared folder” to “my shared
folder”. It just keeps the file you want to upload from moving. Click “Save”
when finished.

Step 10. Click “Apply”.

Step 11. “Click “Add” to add your downloads filter.

Step 12. You are now adding a filter for all of the files you download.
Under “Title” give your filter a name (ie “all” or “all
downloads”). Under “Filter” type in “*.*”, this will
move all downloaded files to your “safe” directory. Change the radio
button under “Action” to “Move”. Under “Destination”
type in the location of your “safe” folder ie (”c:appskazaa
litemy shared foldersafe”). This filter, up to this point, will move
all of your downloaded files to your safe folder, however your safe folder is
still uploading so we will have to use the “run this command” option.
Under “Run this command” type in the path to your “move.bat”
script within your “kazaadownloads” folder (ie “c:appskazaadownloadsmove.bat”).
Now this filter will firstly, move your downloads to your “safe” folder
and secondly, will run the script that moves the files from your “safe”
folder into your non-shared “kazaadownloads” folder. Click “Save”
when finished.

Step 13. Click “Apply”.

Step 14. e-mail me when things don’t work, untorn@operamail dot com. You may also be able to find an updated version of this tutorial at my homepage
