Canada NEXT?

      Share

The Canadian recording industry hasn’t gone after individual downloaders yet, but is exploring it. “We are obviously watching with interest the litigation that has gone on in the U.S.,” said Brian Robertson, president of the Canadian Recording Industry Association, the RIAA’s Canadian counterpart.

The Canadian music industry has lost $250-million, or 20 per cent of retail sales, over the past three years because of file-sharing. The RIAA said that over that time, the music industry worldwide has shrunk from a $40-billion (U.S.) business in 2000 to a $32-billion industry in 2002.
