With the recent lawsuits against Fasttrack and with Audiogalaxy to be next, it looks like gnutella is the next best alternative. It is the only true P2P network in which anybody can make a client, which virtually makes it impossible to stop. New gnutella clients are being developed all the time, recently XoloX and swapnut have been added to the mix. As always BearShare and Limewire are the leading candidates with the most extensive on-going development. Unlike most the other clients, bearshare is currently undergoing development of defender and multi-segment downloads which will drastically improve the network as a whole. Limewire in the most recent version added IM between limewire clients which is pretty neat… So if you thinking of getting rid of Kazaa or Morpheus, your best bet for the long run is BearShare.
