MediaPeek (www.mediapeek.com) is a new type of p2p- tool especially designed for people sharing movies.
MediaPeek will create preview-thumbnails of shared movies and show you these thumbnails instead of meaningless (and often wrong) filenames or descriptions. With it, you can “take a look” at movies other people share *before* you decide to download a movie.
It is *not* a movie-player or preview- extractor (though it can do that, also) like VNC or AVI-Preview.
It does the following things:
1) You’ll see preview-thumbnails of every movie you download right after you started the download.
2) You can browse through the previews of other users movies. If you see something you like, just click “download in Kazaa” to get it.
3) If you choose a preview picture for download, it is “fake-protected”. You’ll download exactly the movie shown in the preview, no other file.
4) MediaPeek can copy your partial downloads to a separate folder and fix their structure, so you can preview them (a little bit like AVI-Preview).
One drawback however:
The other Kazaa users need to run MediaPeek also, for (1) and (2) to work. Especially to get an automatic preview when you start downloading (1) you’ll need one of the people sharing to run it also.
MediaPeek is designed to work together with Kazaa/ Kazaa-Lite, but support for other p2p-apps is already planned.
It comes in two version: One free version (without ad-ware, spyware and so on) and a commercional version. The main difference is that the commercional version shows more thumbnails/ movie, has an integrated movie player and can export the thumbnails as jpeg or HTML.
One warning: The current version is still a beta.
