From IRC-Junkie.org.
As all of you might have seen or heard, Quakenet recently provided it’s users with their first “class” in their channel #tutorial.
The first event took place on Sunday 25 May at 2000CEST/1900BST in #tutorial.
In a response to an email we sent to QuakeNet, Faile, a QuakeNet oper, informed us that the tutorial class turned out to be a big success.
The idea of the tutorial was to enlighten QuakeNet’s users with some basic IRC knowledge.
As you might have seen on other networks, people without virus scanners are easily infected with all sorts of trojans.
These trojans are often located at URL’s which are spread by spambots. Upon visiting the URL, you’re infected.
Another reason the tutorial was given, was to let people know not to give out their password to anyone, another common event.
QuakeNet’s new channelmodes are also pointed out to it’s users, to inform them of how to set them and their purposes.
If users appear to be interested the tutorial might even become a frequent event on QuakeNet.
