Since the release of the Shareaza 1.9 beta, there have been an abundance of speculations regarding whether the Shareaza New Beta would damage the Edonkey network or would add a good amount of file sharers to the growing Edonkey community.
At the beginning, many Emule users and Edonkey users squared out on the Emule Forums discussing the new Beta. There were mixed results as some favored the addition of a new network, while others feared it to be harmful.
Mike assured everybody on the Emule Forums that Shareaza was in no means harmful to the Edonkey network and it shared 50% of the users bandwidth solely in Edonkey. The rest was divided among G2, Bittorrent and G1(assuming user was connected to any one of those).
How it started?
On May 6th when Mike released the new Shareaza beta version everybody wanted to know what the 2 new networks were supposed to be. Finally, once released, it was revealed that the two new networks would be BitTorrent and Edonkey2000.
This raised many questions regarding the addition of the Edonkey network and how it would fare.
The shareaza website now asks for everybody’s help to beta test the new version and see how the 2 new networks will fare alongside G2.

The next major version of Shareaza is here — almost. As promised, the Shareaza 1.9 public beta is available now. The mysterious two new networks were in fact eDonkey2000, known for its efficient sharing and large file selection, and BitTorrent, known for fast access to very new files. These are now available in addition to Shareaza’s premiere Gnutella2 network and the legacy Gnutella1 network, giving you four P2P systems at your fingertips.
This of course can be somehow debatable. From what the FilePortal admins have experienced, there are some memory issues in the new beta but the edonkey performance is holding up very well. Most of the uploads go to the Edonkey Network, obviously because the amount of users on that network is much greater then on G1 and G2 itself. The new shareaza looks promising but what do you have to say about your experiences with the supposedly “Ultimate p2p client”?
