Richard Menta over at MP3newswire.net has posted a solid commentary reflecting on the news that Apple may buy Universal Music Group. He makes a good point that with HP now selling its starter PC for 80 bucks less than the mid-level iPod, it may be time to reevaluate the company’s direction that may morph it more into a digital media company. Will it work? Steve Jobs pulled it off in the movies with Pixar and with Apple eyeing online sales of digital music (and in need of content to sell) it may make sense. With the world’s biggest record company – the one that now owns MP3.com and EMusic – available at a fire sale rate, it may be the big opportunity that Apple is waiting for.
