13 Univesity of Cincinnati students are being tried by the school’s Board of Judicial Affairs for downloading copyrighted material. This action violates the code of conduct for the school and is the reason for the punishments.
“Complaints from a point-of-contact outside the university about possible copyright infringement on campus sparked the investigation”, said UC Police Department Special Investigator Jim Downing.
After this complaint was filed, the students’ computers were searched and the suspection was verified. Punishments could include probation or suspension.
Not enough information was given, but the students were likely using KaZaA and were therefore discovered by an entertainment industry related to the RIAA. They would probably not have been caught if they had taken more precautions.
