Woodstock Systems launched today the Personal Digital Server (PDS), an all-in-one software product including a media player, CD ripper, and radio stations. However, it’s key feature is a file lending system, which unlike traditional P2P networks, breaks no copyright rules. Instead of letting users copy files over and over, the PDS restricts access to the wanted file but allows the playback or viewing of it through the media player.
Woodstock’s PDS is available in a free and pay version. The “Standard” version allows the lending of music to friends, but not videos or pictures. The “Pro” version allows all files to be lent, as well as ripping and burning, and support for modem users.
