Sneak-preview of Locutus Lite

Locutus, the new and rather unusual P2P app from the same guy that brought you Freenet, now has a preview of their upcoming Locutus Lite release (the first production release of their software) on their site.

What makes this sneak-preview interesting is that, more-so than the currently downloadable prototype, it clearly demonstrates their focus on security. This is something new for P2P File Sharing. Rather than the approach used by everything from Napster to Kazaa, where you are either sharing a file or you aren’t, Locutus allows you to define groups of users and specify which groups may search which files. These groups can be defined by you or your sysadmin – making this a useful feature for corporate use of the Locutus software. In Locutus Enterprise, the commercial version of Locutus, this will be enforced by military grade security.

Could Locutus successfully bring the benefits of P2P File Sharing to the corporate environment? We may soon find out.
