Open Content Network Goes Live

The Open Content Network is a collaborative effort to help deliver
open source and Creative Commons-licensed content using peer-to-peer technology.

The network is essentially a huge “virtual mirror” that augments existing mirrors with bandwidth from the P2P network – providing users with fast parallel downloads. OCN clients can be deployed via a browser plug-in and should eliminate the “Slashdot Effect” for over-burdoned web sites that join the network.

The protocols employed by the OCN are akin to the Gnutella HUGE protocols and thus would be easy for most any Gnutella client to also become an OCN client.
