Copyright Lobby Seeks to Kill Online Music Bill

A Yahoo News report: “A broad coalition of entertainment companies, advertisers and sports leagues will descend on Capitol Hill Monday, seeking to strike down legislation requiring music labels to offer the same licensing deal at the same price to all online music ventures.” The “entertainment companies” they speak of are the same ones that pushed out Napster and MP3.com, that’s right, the “coalition includes the Motion Picture Assn. of America, the Recording Industry Assn. of America” and many more. And what is their excuse for opposing this law that would require them to treat all licensors equally? “That measure would create a number of new regulations and impediments for the electronic distribution of copyrighted material before the marketplace has a chance to develop on its own and would cause enormous harm to consumers.” I think the cosumers have spoken. Pay Zero!
