The new features and changes in Shareaza 1.8 are too massive and numerous to list here – compared to older versions, it’s almost a whole new product. But here are a few major ones:

	Introducing Gnutella2 We’ve heard our users complain about Gnutella. Now we’re doing something about it. Gnutella2 is a new, more advanced protocol which operates along-side G1, delivering true global searching, more reliability and other powerful features. Forget FastTrack, WinMX or anything Donkey – Gnutella2 has the best features from everything else, and more. Gnutella is back better than ever.
	The Ultimate Library We’ve re-designed Shareaza’s library so you can manage your files easier and access them faster. Virtual folders, albums, TV episodes, e-books, videos, documents, integrated search, metadata cross-referencing and editing, multi-source thumb-nailing – its the most sophisticated file library manager you’ll find anywhere. No kidding.
	Sexy New Media Player Play Audio and Video right in Shareaza. The coolness of Shareaza’s Media Player is almost impossible to describe – it’s faster than Windows Media Player, with even more classy options! Full play-list support, plus cool audio visualisations, aspect ratio correction and more. Preview files while you download them, including DivX movies (thanks to Csaba Budai)!

Smart and Reliable File Transfers : Incorporating all the latest technologies to make file transfers as quick and reliable as possible with source sharing, swarming, partial file sharing, secure cryptographic range verification, multiple dynamic upload/download queues and reliable downloading from “firewalled” users. It’s all there, equal or better than any other file sharing app.

User Profiles and Chat : See who you’re connected to by name, meet other users, chat privately with rich text, links, emoticons, and the lot.

Advanced Browsing : Browse user profiles and shared file libraries, with a new folder browser – no more wading through one huge list of files. Check out favourite files, favourite web bookmarks or link to popular Instant Messenger services.

Plugins : Shareaza comes with a bunch of cool plug-ins already, and more will be available in the future. For starters we have a very versatile Image Viewer Plugin, which can view most common image formats right inside Shareaza – even progressively while they’re downloading! It can also zoom & pan images at request.

… and that’s just for starters. There are simply too many improvements to list. And the best bit is, if you’ve got an idea for an improvement, send it in and there’s a good chance it will be in the next version!

Finally, a special thanks to the hundreds of thousands of people who have helped beta test this version of Shareaza by using the many v1.7 betas. Your help in proving the network structure and finding implementation bugs is greatly appreciated. You may find a few new surprises in the v1.8 release, too. If you’re still keen to help out with Shareaza, it’s now time to move into promotion mode. The vast majority of people who don’t use Shareaza don’t use it because they’ve never heard of it.
