Gateway will be selling two products at an unusually low price, all in an attempt to attract consumers. The first PC to be released is priced at $399 after rebates.
The computer comes with a 1.8GHz Intel Celeron processor, a 40GB hard drive, 128MB of memory, a CD burner, and a year’s worth of America Online Internet service. Not only that, but Gateway is offering free computer training classes to teachers.
The second product, which will begin sales this monday November 4th, is a 42 inch plasma TV for under $3,000. Not only is it rare for Gateway to make TVs, but this price for a plasm tv will be the lowest yet. The competing low price for that is 3,059 and that is already considered cheap. Septmember’s average for a plasma tv was $6,328.
As a sale representative of Gateway puts it, “When you look out, there are still people in the market shopping and buying.
There is plenty of opportunity to continue selling. We are just saying let’s get out there early and take the lion’s share of the attention.”
