Represenatives Rick Boucher and John Doolittle have introduced a bill called the Digital Media Consumers’ Rights Act. This bill would reverse major aspects of the DMCA, including the legalization of encryption-breaking schemes for legitimate purposes. Another interesting aspect is that copy-protected CDs would be required to have labeling identifying them as such. If this passes, it will be a major step in protecting fair use rights for consumers.
