The Bugbear Virus, also known as W32.Bugbear or I-Worm, has infected about 11,000 emails til now. It is second in infecting emails, after Klez which infected 14,000 emails.
It attacks users who have Windows as OS, and an unpatched version of Internet Explorer 5.5. The virus spreads itself to shared folders of P2P programs, and sends itself to other emails using its own email engine.
It disables all anti-virus softwares, and firewalls making your computer vulnerable to other virus and the effect of the virus itself. Finally, Bugbear sends off an encrypted file with information about the computer to a predefined e-mail address and opens a backdoor for network attackers to use to sneak into the system. Being ranked a 2 out of 5 in threat on monday, Symantec has raised the threat to a 3 on tuesday.
To secure yourself from this virus, update your anti-virus list and patch the Internet Explorer 5.5. To find a link on patches, and to read more about this visit: here
