The RIAA and Madster have been involved in a long running case over copyright infringement on Madster’s network. Since the start of the case Madster have been represented by Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP. The same law firm that unsuccessfully defended Napster. The law firm has been working for free on the case since Johnny Deep filled for personal bankruptcy. Recently the Judge in the case ordered the RIAA to come up with a way to filter copyrighted material on Madster’s network. The RIAA responded with a 100 plus page document on how to filter on the P2P network. Then the Judge gave Madster 2 days to respond to the RIAA document. Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP lodged a motion to get this period extended
. Whilst at the same time worked on a response. During this recent work on a response to the RIAA document a dispute has arisen between Madster council and Johnny Deep over the response. Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP are withdrawing from the case as a consequence. However, Johnny Deep says there is not a reflection on them.
The case is expected to resume tomorrow where the Judge will rule on the motion to remove Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP as council for Madster. The Judge still also has to rule on how much longer Madster will be given to respond to the RIAA filtering document.
