Congress debate Continues on P2P Piracy Prevention Act

More of those who are in favour and against the P2P Piracy Prevention Act have spoken in congress. The P2P Piracy Prevention Act would give copyright owners certain rights to hack P2P networks where their work has been found.

Howard Berman, who proposed the bill, said today “There have been some truly outrageous attacks,. I never expected that anyone would challenge the underlying premise of the bill, namely that copyrighted owners should be able to use reasonable, limited measures to thwart peer-to-peer piracy”.

Meanwhile Gigi Sohn, president of Public Knowledge, a new group that lobbies in favor of the public domain and an open internet testified that the bill is currently worded too vaguely, and could be open to abuse that would be harmful to internet users.

The debate continues. Read more on what was said in congress from ZdNet and The Register
