Instead of searching for a file and downloading it from an arbitrary source, VXNET enables its users to search for people. Maintaining a “persistent presence or community” in a P2P environment has many benefits, especially when the network is remote or mobile. VXNET aims to capture the small business user market inititally, and has a keen eye on the breaking mobile P2P network market.

VXNET is an IM, file sharing and networking software application that enables you to share the files on your hard drive easily, and to build a personal network of users to share that content with. It takes the convenience of email attachments and the familiar LAN-based “Network Neighborhood” and combines it with the remote functionality of FTP servers. Now you can set up shared folders on your computer that are accessible by anyone with an Internet connection, instead of just the co-workers on your LAN. Bundle in instant messaging and VXNET is a complete communication suite.

VXNET was designed to provide fast, easy, and efficient file transfers between Internet users worldwide. VXNET makes it simple to set up private networks. At the core of VXNET is our virtual x:/net technology, enabling computer devices to connect directly to each other, without the need for a network server. Use VXNET to communicate and share information directly with friends, co-workers, clients and suppliers. Users don’t have to know how to set up FTP servers and clients; they don’t have to deal with huge attachments coming into their e-mail box – all they need to do is install VXNET and they’re ready to go!

VXNET introduces the concept of “Persistent Community”. Instead of searching for a file and downloading it from an arbitrary source, VXNET users search for people that they believe they want to share information with (or who have information to share with others). Once a user is found, they are added to your Personal Network, where they will remain until you choose to remove them. This is a powerful concept enabling groups of like-minded individuals with similar interests to set up distinct communities within their VXNET private network.

VXNET also introduces the concept of Private Folders. With this feature you have the ability to choose who can access the information you’re sharing; VXNET provides security no other tool offers.

VXNET allows you to copy to/from multiple machines at the same time. Theoretically, you could copy two larges files from one computer, a folder from another, and copy several documents from your computer to a third! The number and direction (to or from your computer) of simultaneous copy operations is unlimited!

VXNET contains a comprehensive private network Messaging System; which includes Instant Messaging, Folder Notifications (Tell a Friend), Authorization Requests, plus a whole lot more. All messages received by VXNET are stored in your Message List. You’re notified of new, unread messages by the icon in the Status Bar.

The unrestricted preview version of VXNET is available free, and contains no spyware or advertising.

VXNET aims to make secure virtual private P2P networking affordable and effective for any business or individual Internet user, wherever in the world you want to network peer-to-peer.
