Google.com, one of the internet’s most popular search engine, has added a News search to its site. Now, ‘news’ is a tab that will be located in the main page, along with other tabs such as web and image. Google will not hire any editors for news, but instead draw up news from 4,000 different sources. Sources include major news services such as CNN, or local news sites.
When searching for a term in Google’s main page, news article links related to the term may be found in the results page. For example, if one was to type “Tony Blair” in the main page, the results page may have links to news articles related to Tony Blair just above its results. Until this Monday, when the news search was added, Google only had 150 sources of news.
Google’s traffic has also increased now with its new feature, going from tens of thousands to millions. The news search is currently free without advertisements, but depending on the type of demand, Google may decide to make some money off of its new feature.
