More on Version 2.0 and Sharman Network’s new agreements…

Firstly, Sharman Networks has Teamed up with Tiscali. Tiscali is a giant ISP in Europe. Why have to teamed up with Tiscali?, Sharman Networks say that it is because They’re a brand we like the attitude of. Real reason? They will get commission for each sign up through Kazaa.com (which is one of the most popular sites on the internet). On top of that it is believed that Sharman Networks are again attempting to legitimize their software with agreements with big companies. This is also another example of an ISP siding with P2P file sharing. Read more on this here

As perviously reported, Sharman Networks have released KaZaA 2.0. Version 2.0 has removed much spyware and added additional bogus file filtering. Among the new features in Version 2.0 are…

  • The ability to filter a lot of fake files
  • It provides a simple way to download albums all at once instead of song by song (Cnet)
  • Web search
Use standard KMD interface to search the web.
  • Customizable skins
    Customize the basic desktop interface.
  • Shared playlists
Create unique shared playlists and search for
    other KMD users playlists.
  • Improved image handling
    More image formats supported.
  • Unlimited bitrates
Higher quality files possible with increased
    bitrates.
  • Integrity Rating
Files labeled by peers according to technical
quality and completeness of meta data to enhance reliability.
  • Participation Level
Frequent KMD users and those who frequently
rate files rewarded with higher priority in download queues.
  • Integrated anti-virus protection
    Shared folders automatically
scanned on startup and during each download.
  • Expanded Help section
Quicker orientation for new users. New tips
    and tricks for savvy users.

Version 2.0 is clearly a major improvement over 1.7.2. Read more on Version 2.0 from KaZaA and Cnet

It is now known that sharman Networks will be in court on December 2. At least Cnet says that they will be. It had previously been questioned if Sharman Networks would abide by an American ruling to appear in court. A debate on summary judgements for the FastTrack case will take place on that date.

Also worth note is the fact the FastTrack’s simultaneous user numbers have hit 3 million. It is now twice as popular as Napster ever was.
