There is news filtering out of the Madster judgement that could have much bigger implications for p2p. According to Associated Press: They [The RIAA and MPAA] plan to file a motion for summary judgment next week in Los Angeles federal court in a suit against several other file-sharing companies . This is almost unquestionably referring to the FastTrack lawsuit. It seems that the RIAA and MPAA are trying to use the Madster judgement to get a summary judgment in the FastTrack suit. If they were to succeed this could mean a quicker end to the FastTrack suit. However, if they failed the case should proceed as expected on October 1. In my view the attempt is unlikely to succeed because the judge in the FastTrack suit threw out of court a similar attempt by RIAA and MPAA earlier this year.
The FastTrack suit is a case where the RIAA and MPAA have sued a series of companies and individuals that currently or previously had ties with FastTrack. With the Napster suit now dead, the only other major suit that the RIAA is involved in is against madster where an injunction to filter copy protected work is due next week. Another smaller case against Mp3board.com is likely to start soon.
