We all know of the Peoples Republic of China’s long history of human rights violations against both man and beast. Now China has a new notch to carve into its belt amid its long successful history of secrecy war and murder, the Internet.
China has long had a strict censorship policy regarding the Internet. Although it is a no-brainer that citizens of the notorious people’s republic can expect long jail terms for posting information considered to be slanderous to its totalitarian concepts. From charges as minimal as slander or hooliganism to charges as high as treason and divulging information to the enemy, china has a firm grip on all of its citizens internet postings. This strong policy on the Internet has resulted in people having to get their information from websites located outside of China’s long arm of the law. Unfortunately, this may no longer be an option.
An article hosted on Yahoo reports that China’s new policy in dealing with meddlesome foreign websites is soon to be “if you can’t beat em’, just block em”. The article went into detail of how websites and search engines such as Google have been blocked from being seen or used by it’s citizens. Government officials claimed that these are protective measures that need to be taken in order to shelter its citizens from harmful web content. This information primarily includes pornography, information on religions that are not government endorsed, information that could be damaging to the goals of communism, and pretty much anything that could be construed as stimulating to free thought.
