MP3 Licensing Restrictions on Java

From an article on Slashdot.org. It looks like the Java Media Framework was forced to drop MP3 encoding from it’s downloadable package due to licensing restrictions. Yes, most of us don’t care about the Java Media Framework but that’s obviously not the point. It’s just one more reason why we should never encode into the MP3 format anymore, because it is a patented and proprietary codec. Start encoding using OGG and slowly faze out MP3. Remember, it doesn’t have to happen overnight (yet).
