Soulseek: The Real Facts (Discussion)

After the submission of a recent article on soulseek in the program releases section, it got me thinking, I noticed all the replies, and the strong opinions that people had about soulseek. Soulseek is NOT for fans of mainstream stuff like Britney, Christina, Shakira, Ricky Martin, etc.

Soulseek is a different kind of P2P program. in the past, Audiogalaxy was by far the best source for underground, and rare/live tracks AND (rare) dance and rap music. Unfortunetaly, it was also populated by fans of mainstream/pop music, and was therefore a target for the RIAA to go after. After Ag closed, various alternatives were discussed; Soulseek, Filetopia, Mediaseek etc. Most fans of mainstrem music moved to kazaa, imesh, grokster, WinMX etc, but unfortunetely, in my opinion, some thought they would try soulseek. This was a big mistake, and it raised the ire of soulseek users, who wanted to keep sharing their underground stuff away from the eyes of the RIAA (most of the music shared on soulseek is often legel, or stuff with nothing to do with the RIAA artists).

Since this happened, soulseek has started to be noticed by a lot of people, and they have began to become more prominent in discussion on P2P issues. However, when this large amount of mainstream music fans downloaded soulseek, they were highly disapointed with the amount of files on offer. This has caused soulseek to get a lot of BAD publicity in recent times, with many britney fans etc. claiming that “it doesn’t work”, “this app has NO files, it sux” etc. Well, this is what I have to say to all of you: You like pop stuff????, then go somewhere else, find another app like kazaa, I Mesh, audiognome, limewire, Bear Share, Grokster, Song Spy, Morpheus, or something like that, stay AWAY from soulseek, don’t ruin one of the only ways for us fans of less popular music to find stuff that we like.

We dont want the RIAA to come along and shut down soulseek, if we keep this poppy crap off the network, then we should be ok, the RIAA has no reason to fear or hate soulseek, it simply isn’t for sharing mainstrem/copyrighted music. Luckily, all this bad publicity for soulseek recently has basicly removed the RIAA artists from its network, LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY. Please post yout opinions, i’d love to hear what you all think.
