Last year CD sales fell by 5% in the USA. This year they are falling by an average of 7%. In the first six months of the year the volume of shipments was 7% down on what it was in the same period last year says the RIAA.
As always the RIAA is blaming p2p file sharing for the decline. Among the series of statistics it has released include the fact that p2p file sharing has come extremely popular with the young generations. The RIAA says that for people between 12 and 18 years of age, 35 percent said they would download songs for free. The RIAA factored none of the blame with the economic slump, the increasing price of CD albums, the increasing popularity of alternative means of entertainment and the increasingly limited US radio play lists. However, it does certainly seem that P2P file sharing is one the factors causing the decreasing popularity of purchasing CD’s. Read more here.
