XviD Development has been stopped

If your a junkie like a lot of us and are heavy into downloading and exchanging video in the new XviD format, you might be a little unhappy! They have decided to seize development due to claims that “Sigma Designs’” stole large portions of their source code to implement in their own MPEG 4 free codec, and are violating the GNU GPL (General Public License) that XviD is protected by.

This codec has awesome quality (better than divx 5+ in my opinion) and it will be sad if the development does not come back. Lots of release were being currently encoded in this format. I wonder if people will stick with it, or drop support for it all together.
