CNN has this story discussing how some disc jockeys don’t use turntables at all in favor of digital music players loaded with MP3 files. This makes it easy for anyone with good music sense to become a DJ, despite limitations it places on the DJ’s ability to cut in and overlap tracks, alter pitch, and so forth.
Even notwithstanding the RIAA and their ilk, the movement is not without its detractors. Many clubs and established DJs, and some fans, still shun the idea in favor of DJs who have a real collection of discs, but proponents say it’s only a matter of time before MP3-only DJs become more widely accepted.
