In an attempt to eliminate the need for tall and “ugly” cell phone towers that are often challenged by homeowners and city managers around the country, SRI International (a research firm best known for demonstrating the first computer mouse) is working on technology to replace the need for cell phone towers with peer-to-peer networking via unused but turned-on cell phones in the vicinity of one another. Now, if this technology proved successful and the phone/wireless companies agreed to adopt it … because each of us would own a “hub” or “transfer point,” thereby having this piece of hardware in our hands, would hacking cell phone usage be easier?
