Book review: Ruling the Root

Those of us that started using the Internet 10 years ago know what all the initial hype was all about. It wasn’t necessarily e-commerce, it was the creation of a techno-library accessible to all with information on all topics and all media forms available freely. But I think it’s obvious that the creators of the Internet didn’t quite take into account the inevitable legal attention the Internet would receive from special interest groups and their government favors. Salon offers an informative review of Milton L. Mueller’s new book, “Ruling the Root: Internet governance and the taming of cyberspace.” The book’s content would probably provide another perfect example of how copyright and trademark laws are too outdated for today’s technology-based society.
