Mozilla 1.0 Official Release

After four and a half years, mozilla.org has finally released the final release of Mozilla 1.0.

The Mozilla project was originally created by Netscape Communications Corp., as a means to get rid of the slow and outdated Netscape 4.x code.

First reviews of the product have been very favorable. CNET’s Download.com has tested the code, and found it to be faster than Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6 browser on three out of four tests. Specifically, loading cached pages, loading nested tables, and loading mixed text and graphics.

Startup time has also been drastically reduced with the Quick Launch feature, which loads the browser into system memory at startup.
