Ever since MTV descended into reality show hell, favoring Real World and Jersey Shore over any actual music television, YouTube has emerged as music video Nirvana. (See what I did there?!?!)
That’s cool and everything, and as long as you don’t mind sitting through a :30 commercial for each video you can have a pretty good time cruising YouTube and watching / listening to your favorite artists. Inevitably, though, you have to get up off your ass. How do you take all this awesome music with you?
Enter a cross-browser extension called YouTube to MP3 Converter. This nifty windows app installs into Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox and adds a “Download MP3” button to every YouTube video. Click that little button and the MP3 file of the video’s audio (what?) will be downloaded to your computer. From there, transfer it to your phone or iPod or whatever you use to play your music on the go.
The program itself just installs without much instruction, but just open your favorite browser (as long as that’s Chrome, Firefox, or IE) and go to a YouTube video. A simple unobtrusive “Download MP3” button will appear next to the “Subscribe” button. Click that and a download status window will pop up and download your MP3:
The install process contains a couple toolbars however, so be careful what you accept.
