BitTorrent Surf Plans to Boost “Content Discoverability”

BitTorrent Inc’ demos plan to update its Chrome extension with a new feature that prioritizes content published by content partners.

Last month I mentioned BitTorrent Inc.’s new Chrome extension BitTorrent Surf, and the company continues to experiment with exciting new content distribution models.

BitTorrent Surf allows you to search for AND download content right in the Chrome browser without having to visit a BitTorrent tracker site OR having to launched a standalone BitTorrent client ” BitTorrent Surf does both.

The move was part of more than a year-long process of experimentation to “create a more sustainable distribution model for the Internet’s creators and fans.”

“Within 365 days, we’ve been able to create a legitimate content ecosystem 85-petabytes-big; connecting 16 innovative artists with 170 million activist listeners,”  notes the company.

Recently the company demo-ed an update to BitTorrent Surf that strengthens the ability of it and its content partners to create a scalable, sustainable distribution model by optimizing the BitTorrent platform for artist visibility.

In other words, the musicians, authors, filmmakers and others that choose to partner with BitTorrent Inc. to deliver their content to the masses outside of standard distribution channels will rightly see their content prioritized in the search results so as to help create a strong, standalone alternative for content creators.

“We’ve learned that BitTorrent users invest money and time to support artists,” it adds. “We’ve learned that they want to see better content in the BitTorrent ecosystem. We’ve learned that artists who distribute work via BitTorrent create stronger connections with fans.”

They do indeed.

Stay tuned.

I've been interested in P2P since the early, high-flying days of Napster and KaZaA. I believe that analog copyright laws are ill-suited to the digital age, and that art and culture shouldn't be subject to the whims of international entertainment industry conglomerates. Twitter | Google Plus
