Chrome Extension for Saving Web Content Direct to Google Drive

New Chrome extension allows users to save images, documents, audio, video, and more directly from the web to their Google Drive account.

Cloud storage is becoming an increasingly important part of our everyday lives as we need  a place to save and access content on-the-go. Dropbox is currently one of the more preferred services around, but Google Drive continues to make dramatic improvements that are quickly turning it into a viable alternative.

Launched this past May, Google Drive offers users 5GB of free data storage, an amount that is satisfactory for most users simply looking for a place to store important documents.

Now Google has just launched a new Chrome extension called Save to Google Drive that allows users to do just that: save images, docs, and more directly from the web to their Google Drive account.

“This extension allow you to save web content directly to Google Drive through a browser action or context menu,” says the company. “You can save documents, images, and HTML5 audio and video all by right clicking and selecting ‘Save to Google Drive’. You can save the currently viewed page using the ‘Save to Google Drive’ browser action.”

You can also automatically convert Microsoft Office files or comma separated files to Google docs format.

The way it it works is simple.

1. Download and install the Save to Google Drive extension for Google Chrome.

2. Right-click the item you want to download and select “Save —– to Google Drive.” You can also select the Google Drive icon in the browser.

3. The dialogue box will appear, showing the file’s download progress.

4. Save to Google Drive will confirm the process and allow you to either rename the file or put it in the trash if you no longer want to save it.
