aTorrent: New, Free BitTorrent Downloading App for Android

Free BitTorrent client app for downloading music, movies, TV shows, and more directly to your Android device.

It’s been several months since BitTorrent Inc. released an official uTorrent client for downloading content directly to your  Android mobile device, and the scene is still largely comprised of BitTorrent apps that are merely remote control mechanisms for desktop PC-based clients.

Yet, thanks to aTorrent we have a newcomer to the BitTorrent scene on Android. ATorrent is the latest and greatest BitTorrent client for downloading music, movies, TV shows, and more directly to your mobile Android device.

ATorrent has all the features and functions one would want and expect to have in a mobile BitTorrent client.

Features include:

  • Pause and stop torrents.
  • Listed number of seeds and peers.
  • Estimated download completion time.
  • Transfer speeds.
  • Files in torrent.
  • IP address of peers.
  • Download multiple torrents at once.

You can also set aTorrent to only download content when it’s connected to an external power source to save on your battery life.

And much like the official uTorrent Android client ATorrent boasts a built-in search engine for finding content online.

Atorrent even boasts support for the P2P port, DHT port and UDP tracker port.

While aTorrent might not carry the BitTorrent Inc. name and brand it seems to function far quicker and with less lag than does the uTorrent Beta for Android. Keep in mind that aTorrent is also still in beta so one can only expect it to improve even more over time.

ATorrent is currently a free app in the Google Play store so download it while you still can!

Stay tuned.

I've been interested in P2P since the early, high-flying days of Napster and KaZaA. I believe that analog copyright laws are ill-suited to the digital age, and that art and culture shouldn't be subject to the whims of international entertainment industry conglomerates. Twitter | Google Plus
