The iPad app store is packed with text editor apps that range from basic and free to feature-packed and pricey. We’ve already looked at six top iPad text editors but as it’s impossible to cram all the great text editors out there into one article, here’s a look a six more noteworthy apps.

Markup – $9.99

Markup for iPad is perfect for website owners and developers. The app allows you to connect to websites and edit text within them. Using Markup, you can connect to FTP and SFTP sites and, once you’ve done that the first time, the app will remember sites you’ve accessed so you can go back and carry on working with them at any point. Download, edit and upload a variety of text files, including HTML, CSS and PHP. You can also use Markup to upload and name files from your iPad’s photo library, and view PDFs and documents from iWork, Microsoft Office, as well as other files hosted on your FTP or SFTP server.

Evernote – Free

Evernote is one of the most popular note-taking apps on the market, and comes packed with tools features that make capturing your thoughts and ideas easy, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. With an Evernote account ($4.99 per month), you can sync your notes between your iPhone, iPod, iPad and desktop. As well as creating text notes, you can use Evernote to record voice and audio notes, organize your notes using notebooks and tags, connect Evernote to other apps and products you use and, with Evernote premium, edit offline and PIN lock your notes too.

Penultimate – $0.99

Penultimate is a handwriting app that provides an ideal solution for iPad users who dislike the touchscreen keyboard. The interface is designed to be intuitive and simple, and comes with an uncluttered screen. When using the app, you can customize your paper style, the ink type and download templates to aid your scribbling. Created by the same developers as Evernote, Penultimate users can store their thoughts in ‘notebooks’, import images, add annotations and send their notes in PDF format. With Dropbox and Evernote integration, you can also back up your notes in the cloud.

HelvetiNotes – $2.99

HelvetiNotes is designed to make note-taking as simple as possible. The app comes with iCloud syncing, so you can organize and streamline your notes across iPad, iPhone and iPod. HelvetiNotes automatically saves your work to the cloud, so you never have to worry about losing your notes. You can also change the ‘theme’ of your notes and customize the background and text color. As well as creating traditional text notes, you can use the app to create note ‘drawings’. Once you’re done, you can email notes to yourself and others, and organize them into folders.

Simplenote – Free

Simplenote is similar to Evernote in that it allows you to keep text notes and synchronize your notes between different devices. The app also works with other programs, so you can capture information from one app and store it in Simplenote. Once you’ve finished your note, you can share it via email or print straight from your iDevice. Users can also add tags to notes for easy access in the future, save different versions of the same note, and add pins to select notes. The basic version of Simplenote is free, however if you want to get rid of adverts and access extra features, you can get Simplenote Premium for a one-off fee of $19.99.

Pages – $9.99

The Pages app is the iOS version of the Mac desktop word processor and comes with similar features. Like the desktop version, the app comes with 16 templates you can use to create letters, reports, flyers, cards and posters, as well as standard text documents. You can also change the color, font and texture of the document. With iCloud synchronization, you can start editing a document in Pages on one device, then pick up where you left off on another. Add images to your document, use thumbnail browsing, insert charts, tables and graphs, and insert footnotes and endnotes. When you’re ready to share your work, the app enables you to export to Pages, Microsoft Word or as a PDF file. You can also print wirelessly or share your document via email.
