Shuffler.fm brings their musical services to the iPhone/iTouch.
Finding good music online can be a bit of a daunting task considering all the music blogs out there. While Pandora allows you to create channels based on bands that you enjoy while ex.fm aggregates the various music from blogs into one site. Shuffler.fm takes cues from both sites and puts it all together in a Flipboard-like model. The end result is a curated “radiozine” - a music discovery guide that turns popular blogs and websites into radio stations.
Shuffler.fm, like ex.fm, aggregates music from various niche and mainstream music blogs, allowing users to peruse and discover tunes based on genre and style. Users can also check out the top trending songs and check out various music videos. Since many of these underground music blogs have access to songs before their release, Shuffler is able to give music fans an opportunity to discover songs before they go mainstream.
The iPhone/iTouch app allows users to sign up via Facebook. Once logged in, users can search for songs by category, read articles and, of course, play some awesome tunes. The app pulls content from hundreds of sites, so there’s no shortage of music. If there happens to be an artist or song that a person is waiting for, the app offers a subscribe function that will notify them when news breaks. The subscribe function also extends to particular blogs that users wish to follow. If you already have the app for the iPad, the iPhone/iTouch version works pretty much the same way but with better optimization.
The app itself is extremely easy to navigate and is centered around discovery. Since it’s curated by humans and experts, the listening experience is far more personalized versus sites that use a purely machine-based algorithms. Also, the app is free! For droid users, an app is in the works.
Shuffler.fm is an excellent way to find pre-released songs, discover new artists in a genre that you love or maybe even delve into something different. For Spotify users, Shuffler may be showing up in the Spotify ecosystem if approved.
