iPhone 5 release date slated to be September 21, with expected announcement September 12.
There’s been plenty of hype surrounding the new iPhone and tons of leaked images circulating around the internet but it isn’t until recently that there have been whispers about the actual release date. According to sources within Verizon and AT&T, the two companies have issued an employee vacation blackout between September 21-30 due to an impending iPhone 5 release.
The release date of the iPhone 5 will be announced during a special Apple event on September 12. Aside from the iPhone, Apple will also announce the release date of the iPad mini as well as the iPod nano and potentially the iPod touch. While there has not been much speculation on the release date of the iPad mini, it’s likely that the release date will be the same as the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order after the announcement as per usual Apple fashion.
While there are no confirmed reports on what the iPhone 5 will feature, many people are hoping for a larger screen and more storage capabilities (perhaps even an SD card slot). The rumor mills seem to be pointing to a larger 4″ screen with a slimmer design by utilizing smaller dock connector, nano-sim and in-cell display. For 4G users, fret not, the new iPhone 5 is purported to have 4G LTE compatibility.
Apple won’t be without competition, however. Samsung has announced that they will release the Galaxy S3 mini before the end of 2012 for the price of $299 vs. the likely price tag of $800 of the iPhone 5 (no contract). The mini will allegedly feature dual-core processor, a 5-megapixel camera and a four-inch super AMOLED display.
With all the hype and speculation that has been surrounding the iPhone 5, it’s unclear what the phone will actually feature until the actual announcement on September 12.
